Throughout the past few months, French star Alex Sarr has been the top name to look out for when it comes to the 2024 NBA Draft. Turns out, he already has intriguing comparisons to several pros in the league right now.
Born in France, Sarr started out with Real Madrid’s cadet youth team for two seasons, starting in 2019. He then made his way to the United States the following year to join Overtime Elite league for two seasons. During that period, the big man earned second-team All-OTE honors. Sarr then played for the Perth Wildcats in the Australian Basketball League in 2023 with averages of 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and 1.5 blocks in 18.0 minutes.

Despite his 7’1″ frame, Sarr has exhibited mobility, allowing him to guard multiple positions. While his shooting needs some work, he has the potential to be a capable shooting big in the league if given time to develop.
Speaking of potential, Sarr’s ability to develop a reliable three-point shot and enhance his playmaking skills remains possible down the line. He also has the chance to become one of the most talented defenders in the league through his athleticism, making it possible for him to enjoy a career like that of San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.
Possible 2024 NBA Draft Number One Pick Alex Sarr Receives Interesting Pro Comparisons

Just days before the 2024 Draft, more and more people are expecting Sarr to be selected first or somewhere within the top two. In an article by Michael Sotto for Hoops Hype, the French star has received interesting comparisons from several NBA stars right now from Perth Wildcats’ general manager Danny Mills.
“The names that come to mind are potentially Evan Mobley, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Nic Claxton,” Mills told HoopsHype. “They’re guys that can affect the game defensively because of their instincts and physical tools. Offensively, they’re evolving. Sarr is super talented and versatile on the offensive end. He’s got a really high floor, and his ceiling, if he hits it, is extremely high,” Sotto wrote.
All three big men are already talented and capable centers playing in the NBA right now. While Mobley and Claxton still need to develop their outside shot, Jackson’s 34 percent success rate from deep and his Defensive Player of the Year performance lasts season make an interesting ceiling for Sarr.

It remains to be seen whether Sarr can go first and become better than the players mentioned down the road. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on him when he makes his debut next season.
