The Philadelphia 76ers’ locker room conflict is a thing of the past now, at least based on the latest development in the organization and Tyrese Maxey’s words about Joel Embiid.
The 2023 MVP returned after missing the last seven game and scored 31 points with 12 rebounds to lead his team to a win over the Chicago Bulls.
The build up to his return was filled with so many issues not just his knee injury. Most prominent of which was him reportedly getting called out by Maxey for his tardiness.
They already defended that it is just a normal locker room talk and was blown out of proportions by the media.
These guys are professional and they showed that in the finest way possible as both Maxey and Embiid shone in their last game.
Maxey said getting Embiid back is what made things easier for them, especially for himself as he recorded his first career triple double with 25-11-14.
“He’s really good at basketball,” Maxey told reports postgame.
“He creates space for the rest of us, man. He causes so much attention. Like I said, I didn’t see one double team on the pick-and-roll today. That’s like, the first time in a pretty long time. So then my ability to come off and create shots for myself and create shots for my teammates, and he had to do what Joel does. It’s really good for us.”
Nick Nurse echoes Tyrese Maxey’s sentiment about Embiid
The win gave 76ers their first back-to-back victory this season. They are also 5-5 in their last 10, 4-1 in their last five.
Embiid is surely huge for the team. However, he had some struggles in the first half, probably because he needs some getting used to when it comes to real 5-on-5s.
Good thing for them Embiid is a very talented offensive player.
Even head coach Nick Nurse was amazed by how his star made adjustments made the right decisions in the game.
“You’re in that stage of kind of ‘Uh oh. What’s gonna go on here tonight?’ And then all of a sudden, he certainly caught fire there with a little bit of variety,” coach Nick Nurse told reporters after the win.
“I know it kind of seemed like a lot of foul line jumpers, which it was, but he snuck in a roll or two. He snuck in a couple post ups or two.”
