Since 2006 the Texas A&M Aggies haven’t had this good of a season. Led by longstanding coach Buzz Williams, the Aggies sit in the No. 10 spot of the AP-Top-25 poll with a record of 12-2 in a volatile SEC.
A Collective Effort of Energy from the Texas A&M Aggies
“We have a very specific recipe(for success),” said Buzz following a 20 point win over rival school the University of Texas. “We talk about the same things every day, every pregame, every halftime- we don’t have a margin to veer off of that recipe.”
But what is the recipe? So far this season there hasn’t been that “NBA prospect” player carrying the Aggies as you often see with top ranked teams. Rather, it’s been a different guy stepping up each game to propel Texas A&M on their eight game win streak acc. to Buzz.
“I don’t think it’s one person, it’s one person per night but the power and collectiveness of all of them.”
The collectiveness of the team is apparent with the energy that the men bring to each game. It’s like a swarm of bees out there, pressuring the ball constantly and effectively. In a recent blowout game against Abilene Christian, the Texas A&M Aggies recorded a program best(since 2022) 21 turnovers and are currently averaging 14 a game. They also allow the 16th least amount of points per game with 62.4.
Williams attributes the energy to the close-knit chemistry of the Aggies, emphasizing the good nature of the group and how it inevitably leads to success on the court.
“We have really good human beings that play and work for us and feeling the continuity helped us come back from our break and get in our groove,” said Buzz following the win versus ACU. “I think the spirit of our guys was great.”
12th Man Exemplifies Success
If you have ever watched or attended a Texas A&M sporting event then you know the difference the 12th man makes. Every game they bring the boom, you can hear it through your home television. Reed arena, home of the Aggies, is packed to the brim no matter the opponent and sets the tone early with numerous thunderous chants from not just the student section but the whole crowd.
Interestingly enough, the impact of the 12th man is evident- they haven’t had a losing record at home in over a decade. With conference play just starting, expect the 12th man to notch into extra gear. Every game becomes a rival game and the crowd won’t let you forget it.
Wade Taylor IV’s Consistent Leadership
As a fourth year Aggie, Wade Taylor has been played through every sort of pressure for the Texas A&M program. He’s improved as a player each year- averaging 8.2, 16.3, 19.1 and now 15.7 PPG here in 2025.
Under his leadership the team has also gotten better each year.
In 2021 the Aggies didn’t make the March Madness tournament; the next year they did but lost in the first round. Last year Texas A&M made the cut once again but fell to No. 1 seed Houston in overtime despite a heroic effort from Taylor.
Despite the grueling loss, Taylor learned so much from that game acc. to an interview after upsetting No. 11 Purdue Dec. 16th, 2024.
“Last year we had a great season but what we felt last year we built on this year. We have a lot of guys back from that team and a lot of us felt that hurt(losing to Houston). Now we are just excited to go at it one more time.”

I agree with you Lisa
didn’t know any of that information
Well-written article that captures the team spirit and reminds us that individuals do not win games, but rather the team! The sum total is ALWAYS more than the parts!
