NBA commissioner Adam Silver should learn from the Democrats, or pay the price of “detaching” from the people of America—at least, that’s what sports personality Colin Cowherd thinks of the matter.
In one of the episodes of his show The Herd, Cowherd talked about how other major sports leagues—particularly the NFL and the MLB—have handled previous eras of decline in their leagues and came out with better numbers and overall better quality of games. This is something that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver should learn from, and more than that, he should learn from the political fate of the Democrats.
“I think [NFL Commissioner] Roger Goodell has navigated a multitude of cultural changes, ” Cowherd said. “The NBA, meanwhile, ratings are down 48% in the last 12 years, and they have fallen off a cliff this year and Adam Silver’s solution is let’s make the courts brighter.”
“And I like the NBA but the All-Star game is now embarrassing and I think load management is a shame on the league,” he went on. “It is a really bad look for a family of four to go to a game and Giannis doesn’t play or Embiid doesn’t play.”
Cowherd added: “I’m sorry. Go ask the Democrats. Be warned. Once you detach from regular people in America, you will pay a price. And it is not easy to run these leagues.”
Adam Silver Called Out For Allowing “Disrespect”: “You’re Not a Leader”
In one of the recent episodes of the PBD Podcast, entrepreneur and host Patrick Bet-David called out NBA commissioner Adam Silver and blamed him for allowing “disrespect” from big names from the NBA, citing names like LeBron James and Steve Kerr.
“You want me to hear this b******t? Get the f*** out, no we’re not watching this,” Bet-David said, talking about the recent left-leaning statements made by San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. “Adam Silver, it’s on you. I put it on you, I put it on you for walking on eggshells around guys like LeBron, walking on eggshells around guys like Steve Kerr. They don’t respect you, Adam Silver.”
“They don’t look at you as a commissioner—they look at you as a lawyer who got lucky,” Bet-David continued. “And David Stern was not just a lawyer, he was not just a commissioner, but he was a leader, you are not a leader, Adam. You’re a nice guy who’s afraid to put his foot down and fix this.”
Adam Silver has previously acknowledged the decline in NBA viewership but attributed it to the season opening coinciding with the World Series and the election period.
