Entrepreneur and podcast host Patrick Bet-David criticized NBA commissioner Adam Silver for not speaking up against coaches and NBA big names openly expressing left-leaning opinions, with San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich as one of the most recent examples. With Silver letting these statements go unnoticed, the question was raised: “Who are your customers?”
In one of the recent episodes of the PBD Podcast, Bet-David called out Adam Silver and blamed him for the decline in interest and viewership in the NBA. In light of the recent comments from an NBA head coach, PBD called to the NBA commissioner to remember who his customers are.
“Adam Silver [I have a] message for you: this falls on you,” Bet-David said. “David Stern was a great commissioner. Under David Stern, we watched the game. Under you you’re okay with an owner talking like this, with a coach talking like this? You’re not going to call him and have a conversation saying, ‘hey what are we doing’?”
“Who are your customers, I’m curious,” he added, then citing the NFL and MLB commissioners. “Who are Roger Gooddel’s customers? Who are Rob Manfred’s customers? Do you think other owners are sitting there celebrating the way Popovich speaks about half of their customers that are coming to the store to buy something? You think Pop speaking like that in San Antonio affects, a Houston team, a Miami team, a Clippers team, affects everybody else? It affects everybody who represents the NBA.”
He added: “You’re okay with Popovich speaking to me like this, a customer? To millions of customers that at one point we grew up listening to this game and watching this game?
Bet-Davis was referring to the recent statements of San Antonio Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich, who openly expressed his left-leaning opinions and views against Donald Trump and for Kamala Harris, in a post-game press conference.
PBD described Popovich as “extremely bitter, seems very unhappy, arrogant, pompous” and “hates half of America.”
PBD on Adam Silver: “The Worst in The History of Commissioners”
In light of the criticism he gave to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Patrick Bet-David described the leadership of Silver as “the worst” in the history of the NBA.
“[Yours] ( Silver’s) may be the worst resume in the history of commissioners of sports,” the entrepreneur said. Adam Silver, you may go down as the worst commissioner ever for your customers.”
Adam Silver has previously acknowledged the decline in NBA viewership but attributed it to the divided interest of the nation during the recent election period.
