Following a closely contested gold medal game between USA and France in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Angel Reese expressed her desire to be teammates with Gabby Williams in the Chicago Sky. Despite the loss, the American-French player wowed her home crowd in the final, finishing with 19 points in 40% shooting (including 50% from outside the arc) and seven rebounds.
Williams was the fourth-overall pick by the Sky in the 2018 WNBA Draft. She averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in her three seasons with the team.
“Okay, now that the game is over, would you like to be a part of the Chicago Sky again? @gabbywilliams15, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to try lmao,” Reese tweeted, seemingly urging Williams to rejoin the WNBA and the Sky.
Adding Williams to this iteration of the Sky will increase their probability of winning a WNBA championship, especially with players like Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and Chennedy Carter.
Williams played her last season in the WNBA with the Seattle Storm, averaging 7.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. In her Olympic campaign, she showed her growth over the years as a player in the WNBA, although it was only enough for her home team to win silver in this year’s tournament.
France started strong in the gold medal match, hampering Team USA’s offensive. They were determined to win an upset in their home country, but it was not meant to be. However, with a 67-66 final score, it has to be noted that they came close.
Angel Reese doesn’t want to be a distraction in Team USA’s Olympic win
Team USA did secure their eighth straight Olympic gold medal. Still, it seems the conversation has already shifted to the next Olympics, with many throwing Angel Reese’s name in the potential roster. ESPN’s Michael Voepel recently highlighted Reese, Caitlin Clark, JuJu Watkins, and Paige Bueckers, as potential frontrunners in the 2028 roster.
However, Reese has something else in mind.
“Let’s just congratulate these women and let them enjoy this moment,” Reese posted. “Leave me out of this until my time comes!”
The Sky rookie, while pleased that many consider her to be a potential member of the 2028 USA women’s basketball team, didn’t appreciate that they have seemingly stopped celebrating the historic achievement by this year’s team.
Even before the women’s team flew to Paris, many have questioned why Reese and Clark were snubbed from the roster. However, the former LSU Tiger downplayed the noise and focused on cheering for the national team.
