Angel Reese sends a heartwarming message to his former coach at the Chicago Sky, Teresa Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon played a significant role in maximizing Reese’s potential, although their relationship extends beyond the intense showdowns of the WNBA.
With Weatherspoon’s management, Reese became one of the rising figures of the league, leading it in rebounds per game. She even contended for the ROTY award and became an All-Star in her rookie year.
In her Instagram story, Angel Reese posted a selfie with Weatherspoon, along with a short caption showing love for her mentor:
“I love you past life! God really blessed me with you!! Happy birthday coach!,” Reese said.
Weatherspoon coached the Chicago Sky last season; it was also her debut in the head coaching role. However, she failed to reach her team to the Playoffs, ending with a standing of 13-27. She was fired afterward.
Angel Reese was emotional when she learned about Weatherspoon parting ways with the Sky. She previously posted on her X/Twitter account about her distress about her team losing her “unsung hero.”
Reese concluded her lengthy message with the following:
“You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”
Last season, Angel Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals. Before her second stint at the WNBA, people will see her at the 3×3 women’s basketball league Unrivaled this January 2025.
Angel Reese shares reasons for joining off-season women’s league
Angel Reese spends her offseason playing at the upcoming Unrivaled, going head-to-head with talented WNBA players. In the WAE podcast, Reese further shares her candid basis and benefits for joining the league.
“For one I’m staying in the states, I don’t have to go overseas. I’m making 6 figures, I’m living in Miami during my off-season. I’m playing 34 of some of the best WNBA players, being able to get better,” Reese said.
“Some of the best coaches, we got T-Spoon, we got Phil, we’ve got a lot of great coaches there. I’m excited to like really dial in and get better. Obviously the games are going to be cool and fun, but I just want to learn from the vets and stuff.”
Angel Reese will be on the Rose BC alongside Chelsea Grey, Brittney Sykes, and four more. The league’s paycheck is promising; every player gets an expected salary of $250,000 with equity stakes, a complete difference looking at these women’s wages at the WNBA.
