The Maryland Terrapins are headed to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2016 after defeating the Colorado State Rams 72-71 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Freshman Derik Queen hit the game-winning buzzer-beater with a fadeaway jumper in the final seconds, securing the victory after a thrilling back-and-forth match with 15 lead changes.
Julian Reese was essential to Maryland’s win, scoring 15 points and securing a game-high of 11 rebounds. His crucial free throws with 22 seconds left temporarily put Maryland ahead 70-68. Reese’s performance, along with Queen’s game-winning shot, was key in propelling Maryland forward and keeping their March Madness hopes alive.

Angel Reese: Preparing for the 2025 WNBA Season
Meanwhile, Angel Reese is in the midst of a small rest period as she prepares for her second professional basketball season in the WNBA. Reese spent the offseason playing in Unrivaled, which proved a successful decision for her.

Reese played for the Rose BC. Despite starting out as one of the perceived underdogs, Rose BC emerged to win rough for the playoffs and ultimately beat rival Vinyl BC to clinch the first-ever championship for the new league.
While she was not part of the final game due to a hand injury she sustained beforehand, Reese was still considered a significant contributor to Rose BC.
Reese, who earned All-Unrivaled Second Team and was named the league’s first Defensive Player of the Year, is back with the Chicago Sky. Despite missing the championship game, the center was instrumental in setting Rose on the path to becoming the first league champion of Unrivaled.

Angel Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game in her rookie season. Reese’s accomplishments, which include the most consecutive double-doubles (15) and the second-most rebounds (446) in a single season, led the Sky to a 13-27 record in 2024, despite not making it to the payoffs that season.
