Angel Reese is looking ahead to the Unrivaled basketball league set to open in January next year as the WNBA season is nearing its conclusion. The “Chi-Town Barbie” has expressed her interest in joining the three-on-three basketball tournament and is looking to build a team composed of hardcourt talent.
Reese has recently reached out to Allisha Gray.
The Atlanta Dream guard posted a collection of pictures from her outstanding 2024 season on her Instagram account. “And that’s a wrap! Until next time,” her caption said. Reese took notice of this post and left a comment, saying, “Let’s be teammates for Unrivaled? Thanks. —Management.”
Gray is coming off a stellar performance this season, helping carry the Dream to the playoffs with her average 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in the regular season
The 6-foot sniper would be an ideal part of any five-women team in the Unrivaled league as she was a member of Team USA women’s three-on-three team that won gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Unrival basketball league was founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier in July last year. The league will have six teams, each with five players, and the games will be played on a halfcourt. The inaugural season will open in Miami next year, lasting eight weeks.
Angel Reese cheered for Allisha Gray during the All-Star Weekend
Angel Reese and Allisha Gray teamed together for Team WNBA against Team USA last July in the All-Star game at Footprint Center in Phoenix. It was a fruitful event for Gray, who became the first player to win the skills challenge and the three-point contest, allowing her to take home a total prize of $110,000.
Gray walked the orange walkway following her spectacular showing in the contests. Angel Resse showed her some love, cheering for her as photographers were taking her pictures.
“That’s the money, man! Period! She got money! She got money!” Reese yelled.
Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky didn’t make it to the playoffs, as she ended her season prematurely due to a wrist injury. While the injury came at the most inopportune time, Reese remained optimistic and declared for the Unrivaled league, citing she will be ready and healthy for it.
Meanwhile, Allisha Gray’s eighth-seed Atlanta Dream fell in the first round of the playoffs, going 0-2 against the first-seed New York Liberty.
With their seasons already done, both Angel Reese and Allisha Gray can start preparing for the three-on-three tournament in the new year.
