Chicago Sky star Angel Reese shared one thing she wants Hailey Van Lith to experience as a WNBA rookie, something she admitted she did not have last year.
In a recent press interview, Angel Reese got honest about one thing she wants for Sky rookie and former LSU teammate Hailey Van Lith. She openly expressed embracing her “big sister” role, and all the while expressing her dedication to making sure Van Lith has access to veteran mentorship.
“I’m not a vet yet. Just staying poised,” Reese said. “I mean, I know a lot of pressure is probably on her from the outside. You know, I know how it is just being the big name, coming to town, expected to do big things.”
“And I was just telling her, like, ‘Stay calm, stay poised.’ Me and Hailey have a great relationship. I love her. And just being able to be here for her in this moment, because last year was tough for me, because I didn’t have a lot of vets. So, just being that big sister, I guess, kind of to her this year is super important for her.”

The Sky’s coaching staff believes Van Lith’s versatility and competitive spirit will be key assets in their push for a playoff return. Van Lith will play with a roster that includes Angel Reese, Courtney Vandersloot, Ariel Atkins, and Kamilla Cardoso, among other big names.

Sky Rookie Shared Best Advice She Got From Angel Reese
Hailey Van Lith, one of the 2025 rookies of the Chicago Sky, shared what she said was the best advice she got from former LSU teammate Angel Reese, whom she got reunited with in Chicago when she got drafted in the WNBA.
“Best advice? To be in shape, probably,” she said with a laugh. “As long as you’re in shape, you can take the bumps and the bruises as they come, but if you’re gassed, that’s a hard place to be in training camp.”
“My one goal is to be in the best shape that I can.”

Reese and Hailey Van Lith played together at LSU during the 2023-24 season, forming a dynamic duo that helped lead the Tigers to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

During her rookie season in 2024, Angel Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. She showcased her defensive versatility with 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocks per game, while maintaining a 48.5% field goal percentage.
