WNBA star Angel Reese had a firestorm develop online over the weekend following her warning about a potential strike if negotiations did not go well for the new collective bargaining agreement set to begin after the 2025 season.
“Yeah, the CBA is coming up I can’t wait,” Reese said on an episode of her podcast “Unapologetically Angel” which dropped on Friday. “We deserve more. Everybody. But we gotta face the consequences. But the women coming in, not this year but next year, the ones coming in this year will still be on the rookie contract.
“The ones that a year after, they going to get more. They probably be making more than us. I’m hurt. I got to get in the meetings because I’m hearing like, If y’all don’t give us what we want, we sitting out.”
Chicago Sky: Angel Reese called out AKA this weekend

Reese called out conservative influencer AKA for making up a fake quote of the second-year Chicago Sky forward. AKA posted that Reese was calling for WNBA players to be paid like NBA athletes.
Reese made it clear in follow-up posts that she never said anything about the NBA. Still, the national champion at LSU doubled down on her warning about a possible strike and said she intended to use her platform to make sure women in the WNBA would be compensated fairly for their efforts.
Many fans on social media complained about Reese’s warning, with some believing that a strike would impede the progress in popularity the sport made in 2024 when Reese and fellow star Caitlin Clark entered the WNBA.
LoLivia Pope backs Reese

Reese reposted a message from LoLivia Pope backing up Reese. Pope suggested that the reason why Reese received so much criticism online was because she’s an “unapologetic rich black young lady.”
“I promise it’s easier to just admit yall don’t like Angel because she’s an unapologetic rich black young lady,” Pope posted on X. “Because this much outrage for her saying the girls will sit out is ridiculous. As if the NBA hasn’t had multiple lock outs to get their demands met. Are yall ok?”

The only way the WNBA will pay better wages is for their employees to call for better ones. Reese isn’t doing anything wrong for agitating or better pay. Strikes happen in every professional sports organization. It usually leads to better things for the players.
