The USA women’s basketball team successfully won their eighth consecutive gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, and many fans miss the presence of Angel Reese. The Chicago Sky forward’s name has been in the mix as an early entry for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
While the rookie may seem to appreciate that people in the media want her to be part of the Olympic team four years in the future, she wants them to stop talking about her—if only for the moment—and celebrate the team’s accomplishment instead.
Reese responded to a post by ESPN Women’s Hoops on X that mentioned her name, among others, as someone who is on the 2028 USA women’s team.
“Let’s just congratulate these women & let them enjoy this moment! Leave me out of this until my time comes!” Reese wrote.
The absence of Reese and fellow rookie Caitlin Clark in this year’s Olympic team had been a big topic of discussion by many since the roster was assembled. Some basketball analysts had been of the opinion that adding them to the roster would have greatly improved the WNBA’s global branding.
Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark should have been in Team USA, says Draymond Green
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green believes rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark should have been selected to represent the United States at the Paris Olympics this year.
Green believes both Reese and Clark are vital to improving the stock of the WNBA, just like the 1992 Dream Team did for the NBA.
“If you think about what the 1992 Barcelona team, ‘Dream Team’, did for the brand of basketball. The [WNBA] is still in those phases of the NBA,” Green told his guest Baron Davis on The Draymond Green Show.
The two rookies also have shown remarkable feats on the court in the first half of this WNBA season, and they aren’t lost on Green.
“For her not to be on the team, Angel Reese not to be [on the team], I think what they are doing for women’s basketball, that should matter,” Green said. “Angel Reese is leading the league in double-doubles and broke the all-time record. Caitlin Clark is leading the league in assists [at] a historical pace.”
