Angel Reese isn’t the only basketball player in her family. The Chicago Sky rookie has a younger brother, Julian, who plays basketball.
Currently a senior at the University of Maryland, Julian Reese played an average of 31.9 minutes per game in the 2023–24 season, tallying 13.7 points and 9.5 rebounds.
Julian, like Angel, plays predominantly in the post. Yet, despite his tall 6’9” frame and athletic gifts that his sister wished she had, he doesn’t like dunking over people, and he had to be monetarily motivated to flaunt his skills.
An old interview of the Reese siblings resurfaced and went viral on Monday. It was from when they were still both playing at Maryland. In the video, Angel talked about playing mind games with her brother just to make him dunk during his games.
“I was watching him (Julian) on my phone, I said, ‘Oh my God,'” Reese said in the interview. “Because one thing, he doesn’t like to dunk on people. If I could dunk, I’d dunk on everyone. I’m telling him, ‘You should dunk on everybody.’ I tell him, ‘Every game that you dunk on somebody, I’ll give you $100.'”
“He dunked on [University of Illinois’ 7’0″ Center Kofi Cockburn] and I said ‘Okay, I got you,'” Angel continued.
“My favorite play was when I got a dunk on Kofi,” Julian later said in the same video. “And I just didn’t want to get off the rim.”
Angel Reese, who is only a year older than her brother Julian, spent her first two years in college at Maryland before moving to LSU. The siblings were only at Maryland together during the 2020–21 season.
Angel Reese has Stephen A. Smith’s ROTY vote
The WNBA Rookie of the Year race has been closely contested between Angel Reese and Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. Both rookies have done incredible feats on the court, causing divided opinions from fans about which one truly deserves the honor.
However, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith seemingly has his vote locked in.
“Angel Reese … she may be Rookie of the Year. She’s special!” Smith said on First Take. “And let me tell you this right now: I don’t care what anybody says, ’cause she can play. She’s no scrub, she’s a walking double-double.”
“Chi-Town Barbie” recently made history, setting a new WNBA record with her 15 straight double-double games. She has averaged 13.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in her 24 games this season. She and Clark still have a few more games left to play, and they could still continue building strong cases for themselves to be crowned the Rookie of the Year.
