Angel Reese has been the focus of backlash online recently as people criticized her bold statement on the issue of the WNBA player’s salary and a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. While a lot of fans and analysts have gone against her, people from within the industry have also gone out and echoed her sentiments.
In one of the most recent episodes of the program, “We Need to Talk” on CBS, UNrivaled co-founder and Minnesota Lynx power forward Napheesa Collier got honest about the issue of Angel Reese and the possibility of WNBa players initiating a lock-out.
In the interview, she clarified a few things that a lot of people are getting wrong in discussing the issue. For one, the WNBA is not asking for equal pay with the NBA.
“We’re not asking for the same salaries as the men; we’re asking for the same revenue shares,” Collier said. “That’s where the big difference is. We get such a small percentage of revenue share right now that affects our salary. We’re asking for a bigger cut of that, like more equitable to what the men’s revenue share is.”
“It wouldn’t get us anywhere close to their salaries. We’re not asking for the same salaries. We’re asking for the same cut of the pie of what is made in our league.”
The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the WNBA and the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA) includes salary limits to ensure financial stability and sustainability for the league.

The salary cap, which advocates like Angel Reese are pushing to change, is designed to maintain a competitive balance among teams and prevent any single team from dominating the league by spending excessively on player salaries.
Social Media Defends Angel Reese From Backlash Over Lock-Out Statement
Amidst the backlash that she has gotten from people over her statement, fans have also gone out of their way to defend Angel Reese from critics and naysayers.

One user on X said: “For someone that’s constantly said nobody cares about or doesn’t move the needle, Angel Reese is the ONLY wbb player big media outlets consistently use to push lies about & engagement farm. I wonder why some other players who are said to be bigger don’t get that same treatment.”

Another one said: “I promise it’s easier to just admit yall don’t like Angel Reese because she’s an unapologetic rich black young lady. Because this much outrage for her saying the girls will sit out is ridiculous. As if the NBA hasn’t had multiple lockouts to get their demands met. Are y’all ok?”
