It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the Los Angeles Lakers are a team that heavily relies on Anthony Davis if you look at how they have been playing in the first seven games of the season.
The Purple and Gold have a 4-3 record after winning the first three games of the 2024-25 campaign. The Brow was a key figure in all seven games the Purple and Gold have played so far, putting up incredible numbers while LeBron James starts the season on a slower note.
The fact that the team’s outlook for the next couple of games is uncertain due to his injury is already causing unnecessary buzz in the media. While he and LeBron James bit back to the snappy questions about AD’s condition, it’s hard to deny that he’s the anchor holding JJ Redick’s roster together at the moment.
One analyst emphasizes Davis’ importance to the team’s postseason hopes by highlighting his place in this season’s MVP race.
Analyst lists Anthony Davis as an early favorite to win MVP honors with his current level of performance
Fansided’s Craig Miller created a way-too-early list of MVP candidates. He ranked Anthony Davis as the second-best player in the league right now, and he provided stats to back up his claim:
He leads the league in scoring (31.8 points per game) while adding 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks per night as well. On the defensive end, he is 73rd percentile or better in block rate, steal rate, defensive rebound rate and even foul rate. If you’re looking for an explanation of the Lakers’ continued advantage in the free throw battle, look no further than his one percent committed foul rate and 21.7 percent rate drawing shooting fouls. His size and athleticism are near impossible to contain on both ends of the floor.
It’s clear to see that the Lakers are looking to build their team around AD with how he and James have been performing this season, and the fans would be thrilled to see him step up to the plate.
Whether he would be healthy enough to sustain such numbers throughout an entire NBA season would be all up to his health and JJ Redick’s adjustments throughout the season.
