Sports analyst Colin Cowherd retracted his criticism of Anthony Davis after the player’s recent hardwood dominance. After calling AD out several times over the previous seasons, Cowherd acknowledged his bad take and called the Los Angeles Lakers star the second-best big man after Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.
In his recent segment of “The Colin Cowherd Podcast,” he spoke to Jason Timpf, saying he couldn’t believe he saw this never-before-seen version of Davis.
“You cannot mistake Anthony Davis in a game. Dominant defender. He’s got significantly more physical to me. I don’t know what happened. This is the ‘AD’ we thought we were getting out of college, and he just wasn’t emotionally ready for it,” Cowherd said.
The forward/center is currently making his mark in Paris as the USA men’s Olympic basketball team’s defensive anchor. He recently helped the team win all their USA showcase games with his aggressive rebounding, shot-blocking, and offensive plays.
Anthony Davis gives positive update after injury scare
During their game on Wednesday, Anthony Davis got tangled up with South Sudan’s Wenyen Gabriel, his former Lakers teammate, apparently injuring his right ankle. There was no need to worry as AD spoke to the media after Team USA’s 103-86 win over South Sudan, quashing any injury concerns and saying he was at “100 percent.”
Davis scared his Team USA teammates when he grabbed his right ankle in the second quarter after the contact. Despite the injury scare, he played 19 minutes and finished the winning game with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocks.
AD contributed seven points and eight rebounds in Team USA’s Olympic opener win against Serbia on July 28. After South Sudan, Team USA will face Puerto Rico next.
Anthony Davis, LeBron James’ Olympic grind could impact Lakers’ season
Meanwhile, on the NBA side, the Los Angeles Lakers have stood pat at free agency after trying to net a couple of key players. The team will likely field the same players they did over the last couple of seasons, so Anthony Davis and LeBron James‘ health moving forward should be taken into consideration.
The two Lakers stars have played extensively in preparation for the Olympics and the event itself, so they will be under considerable fatigue before training camp starts for the next NBA season. As for Davis, whether he can avoid injuries for the upcoming season is a question only time can answer.
