Anthony Edwards, like his Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Rudy Gobert, could be in line for a massive fine following his criticisms of the referees in their loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Edwards didn’t hold back in showing his frustration over what he believes is unfair officiating towards them during the intense Sunday battle that saw them lose 120-109.
Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves Got Dominated by Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers
Without the injured Karl-Anthony Towns (who is out for a minimum of one month following a surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee) and Gobert (dealing with a hamstring issue), the Timberwolves had no one to match up against Anthony Davis during their latest showdown.
AD was simply unstoppable, so much so that not even a big game from Naz Reid couldn’t counter what the Lakers center produced. Davis, in fact, became the first player ever to record a 25-25-5-5-3 stat line. He finished with 27 points, 25 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and three blocks.
Edwards led the way for the Timberwolves with 25 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks. But his efforts simply were not enough.
The game was still close up until the fourth quarter, with the third quarter ending 92-91 in favor of the Timberwolves. Nonetheless, in the final period, the Lakers used a 24-4 run to pull away for good.
Minnesota simply didn’t have enough firepower against the Lakers, though they were also not helped by the fact that the Purple and Gold got a ton more free throws than them.
The Timberwolves attempted a total of 13 free throws and made 11. The Lakers, on the other hand, had 29 trips from the charity stripe and made 22. That 11-point difference in free throws made certainly created a huge disparity.
It is also worth noting that Davis alone had the same amount of free throw attempts as the Timberwolves.
Anthony Edwards Not Happy With Huge Free Throw Gap in Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Anthony Edwards took notice of the major difference in free throw attempts between both teams, and he made sure to highlight it while speaking to reporters after the game.
For Ant-Man, it’s “tough” to compete and win when they are also playing against the referees.
“It’s tough. It’s tough every night when we don’t get to the free throw line as much as the other team. When one player shoots more free throws than you’re entire team, it’s tough. It’s tough to compete.,” Edwards shared, via Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
“You want to compete and if every time they get the ball, we so called foul them and they get to the free throw line. It’s tough. I don’t know how to explain it man.”
It remains to be seen how the NBA will react to Edwards’ comments, but considering how strict they have been when it comes to punishing negative remarks towards officiating, a hefty fine is probably awaiting the Minnesota Timberwolves superstar.
Sure enough, though, the Los Angeles Lakers won’t have a problem with refereeing now that it favors them.
