Anthony Edwards recently sparked a debate regarding Michael Jordan’s time in the NBA, saying that no other players were skilled enough to keep up with him. This caused a number of notable NBA personalities, including Magic Johnson and Kevin Garnett, to call out the Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard for his comments.
This time, another former Timberwolves player spoke out about Edwards’ take. Rashad McCants recently guested on “Gil’s Arena,” sharing his thoughts about Edwards’ claim to Gilbert Arenas after the host gave his take.
Arenas first discussed Edwards’ comments and compared Jordan and the players of his time to types of cars. The former Washington Wizards guard likened Jordan to a Bugatti, a popular brand of supercars, and said the other stars of that era were like Honda Civics.
Responding to the analogy, McCants praised the Honda Civic while sharing the drawbacks of a Bugatti.
“He’s (Edwards) saying like, ‘Nobody was a Bugatti like Mike,’ right?” McCants said. “What I’m saying is a Bugatti is only good when it’s going this way (going straight), and it’s going fast. It’s one dimensional. It looks good and it goes fast. You know what this Honda can do? I can park, and I can get the [expletive] outta here, I can actually hit the [expletive[ curve, bounce on that [expletive] and keep riding,” he added.
“You know what you’re going to do if you hit someone with that Bugatti? On stop, you gon’ call a [expletive]. It’s going to go 0 to 60, it’s going to go fast. But if I gotta turn, it’s the wrong car,” McCants continued.
Anthony Edwards’ comments sparked reaction from former MJ rival
An NBA legend and former rival to Michael Jordan took notice of Anthony Edwards’ opinion on players’ skill levels during “His Airness’” time.
Isaiah Thomas took to X to warn Edwards about his comments.
“Propaganda works, so be careful what you choose to believe,” the former Detroit Pistons guard posted.
“Zeke” was one of the most skilled players in the NBA in Jordan’s heyday. A 12-time All-Star and a two-time NBA champion, he was a consistent 20-point scorer in his early years in the league. Thomas was also a master playmaker; during the 1984-85 season, he led the league in assists, averaging 13.9 per game.
Isiah Thomas’ Pistons were a consistent obstacle to Jordan’s Chicago Bulls before they became a dynasty.
There are a few who can blast Anthony Edwards for his questionable take, and Isia Thomas is one of them.
