Anthony Edwards has had some superb performances at the ongoing Paris Olympics. Despite not being a starter in all games, his double-digit stats make him seem like he was one, even leading Team USA on one occasion. His plays put him on the level of NBA and Olympic veterans.
So far, the Timberwolves star plans to stay, at least to everyone’s knowledge. However, NBA insider Bill Simmons says otherwise. In his namesake podcast, he gives a mysterious message about Edwards, hinting that he might be switching teams.
“When does the first you know, Ant Edwards really loves Bam and Spoelstra and his experience with them. Don’t be surprised…. Story drop. Am I dropping it now??”
Edwards on the Miami Heat is unexpected but more plausible. He’s already making friends with Bam Adebayo, the team’s star. Additionally, the Ant-Man already has experience under the tutelage of Erik Spoelstra, the Heat’s coach. The Timberwolves shooting guard was under him during the 2023 FIBA World Cup and the current Olympics.
However, Minnesota would definitely not just give up Edwards like that. He and other key players have brought the team to the Western Conference Finals, defeating the former NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets. The team also went to third place at the end of the regular season.
So far, Simmons’ message is obsolete, as he has no abstract explanations behind his’ rumors about Edwards. It would need more proof (and news from more NBA insiders or even inside the Timberwolves). The two-time NBA All-Star is still in Minnesota’s lineup for the next NBA season.
Regarding the current Paris Olympics, Edwards is still working toward gaining his first gold medal and a championship in his career. His athletic performance is a crucial factor for Team USA. In their final group match against Puerto Rico, he scored 26 points in just over 17 minutes.
Anthony Edwards maintains his best performance in the Olympics despite an unfortunate loss at the NBA.
The former Georgia Bulldogs player had another fantastic performance in the USA’s quarterfinal match against Brazil. In 21 minutes, he scored 17 points, two assists, and five rebounds. Thanks to his teammates’ contributions, the Americans can deliver a dominating victory.
Anthony Edwards proves to his’ veteran teammates that he can swoop to their level, leading Team USA even as their youngest player. In their subsequent rematch against Serbia in the semifinals, he would again bring his crucial performance.
