Sports analyst and journalist Charles Barkley slammed Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards, as he believes that the Wolves player has “regressed” compared to past seasons, with the main reason being one of the most common woes in the NBA right now.
In a pre-game segment prior to the Wolves facing off against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, Charles Barkley and his co-hosts talked about what has happened to the Wolves this season, and Anthony Edwards in particular.
“I actually think Anthony Edwards, in my opinion, has regressed,” Barkley said. “Because he’s become an outside shooter. He’s not aggressive like he was last year. Last year, ‘This dude like Michael Jordan.’ They just both black. He’s not Michael Jordan.”
Barkley may have misread the prompt as it was stats for Julius Randle on screen for this moment, and Anthony Edwards was averaging 24.8 points prior to the Celtics game.
“In my opinion, that’s not a good [average]. In my opinion.”
When asked about what he thinks was the reason for the regression of Edwards, he pointed to one of the most common complaints for a lot of players in the NBA lately—three-point shots.
“Because he’s taking too many threes in my opinion,” Barkley answered. “If you’re guarding him, you want him shooting threes because when he’s getting to the basket, he’s dunking on people, he’s getting you in foul trouble, he’s getting you in the penalty sooner.”
The Wolves ultimately lost the game to the Celtics with 118-115. Anthony Edwards scored 15 points, did four rebounds, and did 4 assists.
Anthony Edwards on getting Double-teamed: “I Don’t Know what to Do”
Following the loss of the Minnesota Timberwolves against the Boston Celtics, Anthony Edwards talked to the reporters in a post-game conference. Mostly, he aired his frustration about getting double-teamed and being forced to pass the ball around.
“That’s a good brand of basketball, but it’s not how I want to play, of course,” he said about the topic. “I’m only 23, I don’t want to just be passing the ball all night. But the way that they’re guarding me, I think I have to.”
He continued: “Them doubling me, definitely it’s like, ‘Bro, what is going on?’ I’m trying to figure it out. I don’t know what to do honestly, but it’s not fun. I don’t want to look like I’m not trying or not as good as I am, because I am, but I can’t show it because I’m getting double-teamed.”
So far this season, Anthony Edwards is averaging 28.1 points per game, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.
