Anthony Edwards is currently basking in his accomplishments. He won his first-ever Olympic gold medal after Team USA bested France in the men’s basketball final last Saturday.
The 22-year-old has expressed interest in playing in the next Olympics, but he only had two simple words when asked if he wants to play in the next FIBA World Cup.
“Hell nah,” Edwards told The Athletic’s Joe Vardon.
The young Minnesota Timberwolves guard was also part of Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. He played seven games during that tournament, averaging 18.9 points per game on 47.5% shooting, including 31.1% from the three-point line.
The World Cup proved to be a tough challenge for Edwards. Despite a great showing in the tournament, they fell to eventual 2023 World Champion Germany in the semifinal and then to Canada in the battle for bronze, finishing fourth.
As far as his desire to join the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles goes, Edwards told NBA.com‘s Shaun Powell, “I can’t speak on that. I can only speak about what I have around my neck right now.”
Edwards’s gold medal win in Paris has got to feel like redemption, and he will probably want one more chance to compete for Olympic gold in the next four years.
“This was the most fun I ever had playing basketball,” he said.
Anthony Edwards’ hilariously describes Steph Curry’s ‘ridiculous shot’
Anthony Edwards had Stephen Curry in stitches with his description of the Golden State Warrior’s final three-point shot that sealed the deal for Team USA’s gold medal finish.
After the medal awarding ceremony, Curry went live on Instagram, with Edwards joining him. Edwards mimicked Curry’s signature “night night” taunt before talking about the final three-pointer that had him in awe.
“Hey, that [expletive] shot that ball with two people. I’m on the bench like, hold on, I know he hot, but hey, buddy just [shot it],” Edwards said in the video, cracking Curry up.
Curry’s final three-pointer saw him in control of the ball in the corner, then passing the ball to Kevin Durant. KD then returned the ball to Curry, who then fired the shot after attracting two French defenders and then did the celebratory “night night” taunt after the shot went in.
All of Curry’s 24 points in the gold medal game came from the three-point area. Edwards himself contributed eight points in his 10 minutes of action.
