Arike Ogunbowale joined elite WNBA company Wednesday night, tying Diana Taurasi as the fastest player in league history to reach 500 made three-pointers. She achieved the milestone in just 198 career games during the Dallas Wings’ 85–81 road loss to the Minnesota Lynx at Target Center.

“She’s a legend,” Ogunbowale told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “Anytime you can make an imprint in this league—it’s such a hard league, a lot of great players are playing now—being in the league is special. I was glad I was able to celebrate a little bit in the locker room with my team.”

Ogunbowale entered the night needing two threes to reach the 500 mark and surpassed it by hitting five, finishing with 21 points and five assists. Her final three came with 36 seconds left in the game, trimming Minnesota’s lead to 83–81. It marked her highest-scoring performance of the season to date.

“This was a better game,” Ogunbowale said. “Obviously, we want to win. We’re gonna keep getting better. We still got what, 41 games left? But this is a step.”

Arike Ogunbowale Matching Greatness with Dallas Wings

Ogunbowale and Taurasi are now the only two players in WNBA history to reach 500 made threes in under 200 games. Taurasi, the league’s all-time scoring and three-point leader, hit the mark in her 198th game in 2008.

Ogunbowale becomes the first player in Dallas Wings franchise history to reach the milestone and currently ranks in the league’s top 20 for career threes made. She’s on pace to enter the top 10 later this season if she maintains her current average.

Her performance against Minnesota came on a night when the Wings pushed one of the league’s unbeaten teams to the wire. Dallas shot a season-best 36.4 percent from deep and held the Lynx to just 12.5 percent from three in the second half.

Since being drafted fifth overall in 2019, Ogunbowale has led the Wings in scoring for five consecutive seasons and developed into one of the most feared perimeter threats in the WNBA.

She became the fastest player in league history to reach 4,000 career points earlier this year, doing so in 195 games. In 2024, she averaged 22.7 points and a league-high 3.1 made threes per game. She also set the WNBA All-Star Game scoring record with 34 points and eight threes, earning MVP honors.

In September 2024, she tied the league’s single-game record with nine made threes in a win over the Indiana Fever.

    Climbing WNBA All-Time 3-Point Leaderboard

Ogunbowale’s rapid ascent up the three-point leaderboard puts her on pace to break into the top 10 all-time in made threes within the next season or two if she maintains her career average of 2.5 per game. Tamika Catchings currently holds the 10th spot with 606.

The blend of volume, consistency, and big-game production Ogunbowale presents is among the many reasons she remains a focal point of the Wings’ offense. She remains in the early stages of chemistry-building with Paige Bueckers for what Dallas hopes is an elite offense.

Despite the Wings’ early struggles in 2025, Ogunbowale’s milestone performance Wednesday served as a reminder of her offensive impact and ability to lead on the big stage.
