The Atlanta Hawks are one of the most in-form teams in the league because they’re on a five-game winning streak. As a result, they improved to a 12-11 record, good for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
The team has recorded some impressive wins this year, beating the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Cleveland Cavaliers twice, creating a buzz according to former Atlanta Hawks guard Lou Williams.
“This is a team that’s three years removed from the Eastern Conference Finals with basically the same core of guys,” Williams said on FanDuel’s Run It Back show. “Let’s be clear. A lot of these guys were there when they made that run… you can see the joy in this team again. They’re having fun; they’re playing well together. They’ve got a lot of good pieces.”
“They’ve figured something out. They’ve found a brand of basketball that works for them down in the ATL. And I think they can beat any team when they’re playing at that level. I think they can beat any top seed there is, and they can put themselves in a position to be a top seed just as much,” the three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year awardee added.
Can the Atlanta Hawks make good of Lou Williams’ take?
The Atlanta Hawks have a bright future ahead of them because three of the team’s core contributors are all 22 years old or younger. Dyson Daniels has blossomed into a defensive demon. Jalen Johnson is one of the league’s most underrated scorers, and Zaccharie Risacher is slowly developing into a stud.
The only concern that the team needs to address is Trae Young’s shooting slump, as the three-time NBA All-Star has only shot at least 50 percent from the field four times (out of 22 games) this season.
Trae Young is playing through pain because he has an Achilles injury. To his credit, the 26-year-old floor general has logged at least 31 minutes in his last 10 appearances.
