The Atlanta Hawks have promoted Onsi Saleh to general manager after firing Landry Fields on Monday. Fields served as Atlanta’s GM for three seasons, with the team missing the playoffs in the last two years.

Atlanta also announced they’ll be looking for a new president of basketball operations. They finished the regular season with a 40-42 record but missed the postseason after losing to the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament.
“Every offseason we evaluate how we operate and ways we can improve our organization,” Atlanta Hawks principal owner Tony Ressler said via The Associated Press. “As we enter this pivotal offseason, we have several complex decisions ahead of us, and we are committed to providing the human and financial resources needed to ensure that we navigate these decisions with a high level of precision and foresight.”

Fields led the decision-making in trading Dejounte Murray for Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance Jr., and future draft picks last year. He also chose Zaccharie Risacher – a finalist for the NBA Rookie of the Year award this season – when the team had the No. 1 overall pick last offseason.
Atlanta Hawks fans react to the team firing Landry Fields
ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news about Landry Fields’ firing, and most Atlanta Hawks fans saw it as a welcome development. Many believe the team might consider moving on from Trae Young after Fields’ departure.

“Trae Young outta there this summer 🤞🏽” a fan chimed in on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Hawks= most hilarious organization in the @NBA”
“Makes sense after he traded for Terance Mann and also gave up 3 seconds for him.”
“All these GMs being fired but Nico Harrison safe is hilarious 😭,” another fan said.
