The Atlanta Hawks have a real opportunity to reshape their roster this summer because they have the top overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, which they could use to bolster their frontcourt.
Alex Sarr and Donovan Clingan have been floated as the popular choices, and if the Atlanta Hawks pick either one of them, they will likely have to let go of Clint Capela to open up a huge chunk of playing time for their incoming rookie.
Clint Capela had been in the trading block for a while, but fortunately for the Atlanta Hawks. the 30-year-old center has a couple of suitors willing to trade for him, as per Matt Moore of Action Network.
“No one knows who Atlanta is taking with the No. 1 pick. However, as the Hawks debate how to reshape their team going forward, changes — but not a complete teardown — are expected. In particular, the Hawks are expected to trade one of Trae Young or Dejounte Murray, but not both. They’ll keep one to build around,” Moore wrote in his column.
“Clint Capela is a popular trade target with the Grizzlies, Wizards, Pelicans and Bulls having expressed interest,” he added.
Atlanta Hawks could get a decent haul for Clint Capela
Clint Capela has been a serviceable NBA center throughout his career, as he is a lob threat in pick-and-rolls and a solid rebounder and rim protector. However, the two weaknesses of his game are his lack of playmaking skills and his non-existent outside shot.
At the same time, Capela has been a bit injury-prone these past few seasons, which limited his production and playing time during the 2023-24 campaign.
If the Atlanta Hawks eventually trade Clint Capela, the team would likely get a few role players or several second-rounders to add to their draft capital.
