The No. 1 Auburn basketball has a huge matchup coming up, as the Tigers are scheduled to visit Tuscaloosa for a matchup against the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide. An Auburn-Alabama showdown used to attract this kind of attention and generate such hype if it’s a football game, but with both SEC schools becoming national powerhouses in basketball as well, the clash on Saturday between these rivals almost has the feel an Iron Bowl feel to it.
With such an important game ahead, Auburn basketball star Johni Broome can be expected to have more pressure to deliver on the floor for the Tigers, who will enter the Alabama game coming off an 80-68 win on the road over the Vanderbilt Commodore last Tuesday.
Auburn basketball needs Johnni Broome to be available against Alabama

Broome’s ankle has also gotten more attention of late, as the Tigers prepare for the meeting with the Crimson Tide. Broome, who is Auburn’s best player in the 2024-25 college basketball season and arguably the top player in the nation today, has missed games this campaign with an ankle issue but appears to be confident in his availability for this weekend’s contest.
“It’s day by day, week by week, but right now I’m feeling the best I’ve felt so far,” Broome said during a recent appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show (h/t Nathan King of 247Sports). “I’m looking forward to getting back to 100 percent.”
On the season, Broome is averaging 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while making 50.6 percent of his attempts from the field. He paces Auburn basketball in points, boards, dimes and blocks (2.7) per outing.
As for Auburn, it is 22-2 overall this season with a 10-1 record against SEC teams. The Tigers’ only conference loss to date was against the Florida Gators at home on Feb. 8 via a score of 90-81.
