The biggest NBA news in the past week has been the rumored Jimmy Butler trade to Phoenix Suns. Or to the Denver Nuggets. Or to the Golden State Warriors. Is the Miami Heat affected by it? Bam Adebayo answers.
There has been back and forth between Butler’s agent and NBA insider Shams Charania regarding the authenticity of the news but Heat captain said they are not allowing themselves to get distracted by these rumors.
Instead, they are more focused on winning. They lost their last game against the Detroit Pistons.
“Control what you can control,” Adebayo said in an interview with Zachary Weinberger of ClutchPoints.
“We can’t control that. Our job is to go out there and win games. And so for us, you’re keeping the main thing the main thing and keeping it simple. It’s going out there and trying to collect wins.”
It has been a week now since the first news of Jimmy Butler trade came out. Coach Erik Spoelstra has denied it but Charania said he is standing by his report.
Bam Adebayo should be more concerned himself
Adebayo said they are using their energy more on their quest to continue winning games. That can only happen if the star Adebayo shows up every game.
Many analyst and Heat fans criticize the three-time All-Star for his slow start to the season.
The first five game was not ideal based on his standard as he only averaged 10 points per game and had two games where he only grabbed 3 and 5 rebounds.
He managed to turn things around now, scoring 18.5 points per game in the last five while hauling 11.8 rebounds in that span.
He is now averaging a double double of 16.2 ppg and 10.3 rpg.
