To the shock of many fans, the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Detroit Pistons this Tuesday. In a match in which the Pistons entered as a huge underdog but went out victorious, the Lakers’ fanbase was shocked and disappointed. Industry analysts also openly criticized the Lakers, with some calling their loss a “bad early sign.”
Basketball analyst Skip Bayless aired his insights about the recent Lakers game via X. The Lakers experienced a disappointing loss to the underdog Detroit Pistons. In his pot, Skip thought that the Lakers were better than they did in the game, even calling out Lakers coach JJ Redick.
“LeBron’s Lakers just failed to show up and lost at Detroit by 12,” he said. “Crushed on the boards, 55-37. Pistons: 17 offensive boards. Just inexcusable.”
“Hey, JJ, gotta light a fire under your squad,” he added.
Echoing what a lot of fans also had to say, Skip also pointed out how Anthony Davis lacked the support he needed, which could have saved the lost game.
“The Lakers are so much better than they played tonight. So disappointing. Such a bad early sign,” Skip said. “JJRedick just said he wished his team would’ve started the game at Detroit ‘with more pride on defense.’ BOOM. Love that. LeBron and AD probably won’t, which is good.”
Los Angeles Lakers: A Problem in Defense?
One of the major issues that the Los Angeles Lakers have been plagued with this season is how they have approached defense so far. Ironically, the team has ranked so low in defense despite having one of the most defensive players in Anthony Davis.
“I think we can be a really good defensive team,” coach JJ Redick said before their game against the Detroit Pistons. “I’m confident when we get a larger sample size, we won’t be 27th in the league.”
Another major problem that the Lakers faced, particularly against the Pistons, was how less energetic they seemed compared to the Pistons who wasted no time in slacking off. In fact, this is what Pistons guard Jaden Ivey took advantage of, making shot after shot for his team. Ivey and his team capitalized on the apparent lack of vigor of The Los Angeles Lakers, which gave them, at one point, a 20-point lead.
The Los Angeles Lakers will have four more games to play before they begin defending the NBA Cup and will have Victor Wenbanyama’s San Antonio Spurs as their first opponents.
