The Boston Celtics have a great 2-0 lead in the 2024 NBA Finals as they prepare to face the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center for Game 3. With the way the past two games have gone, it’s easy to assume that the C’s are heavy favorites to finish the job and take home their eighteenth banner.
One of the biggest reasons for their success is the effectiveness of their superstar duo. Joe Muzzalla can’t help but gush over Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown for their importance to the team’s incredible postseason run.

Of course, Tatum, Brown, and the Celtics know better than to let the Mavericks get back into the series with consecutive wins. Fans can count on their team to put everything on the line to ensure the series doesn’t make it back to the TD Garden.
One of Boston’s most beloved sons is hoping that they will be able to get the win quickly.
Bob Cousy wishes to see the Boston Celtics lift their 18th championship banner

Bob Cousy is one of the most popular NBA players during the league’s early days. Playing much of his career with Bill Russell, the man known as the Houdini of the Hardwood won six NBA titles while wearing the Boston green.
He talked about the Celtics’ most recent Finals appearance, and he didn’t hesitate to tell everyone his lofty expectations.
Per The Spun’s Chris Rosvoglou:
“I’m 95 [expletive] years old with one foot in the grave and I can barely move,” Cousy said, via The Boston Globe. “I know I’m in overtime. So everything in your life becomes more meaningful. And one of the last things I want to be able to see is for the Celtics to hang up banner No. 18.”
The Celtics winning this year’s Finals will allow the C’s to retake the lead in most NBA championships won over the Los Angeles Lakers.

For Cousy to make such a message after a Laker legend in Jerry West recently passed is a reminder to the Boston Celtics and the rest of the NBA that the game’s earlier legends won’t be around for much longer. Tatum and the rest of the C’s will look to make his wish come true.
