The Boston Celtics won the 2023-24 NBA championship, with Jaylen Brown playing a key role in the achievement. He stepped up in the postseason when Jayson Tatum’s shots were falling off the mark. His performance in the series earned him the NBA Finals MVP award.
The NBA 2K25 ratings for the top 100 players were released recently, with Tatum at 95 and Brown at 92. When talking about the in-game ratings on a recent episode of “Gil’s Arena,” former NBA guard Brandon Jennings said Brown could be over Anthony Davis, who has an overall rating of 94. However, Gilbert Arenas disagreed with this take.
“[Jaylen Brown] is not the No. 1 option on his team. He sits in the corner; they double Tatum. Pass, pass, [Boston] goes through [Jrue Holiday] … He does not demand the [double team] … He’s not in this realm [of the top 10 players in NBA 2K25] yet,” Arenas responded.
Drafted in 2016 by the Celtics, the three-time NBA All-Star played at a high level last year. Jaylen Brown averaged 23.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game during the 2024 playoffs.
Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum, who was the third-overall pick of the 2017 NBA draft, had better stats than Brown last year, averaging 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game while playing the same number of games as the eventual Finals MVP. Tatum was also selected to be part of the 2024 USA men’s Olympic basketball team, while Brown didn’t get the call even after Kawhi Leonard withdrew.
Arenas may have a point behind his criticism of Brown’s NBA 2K25 overall rating.
Jaylen Brown called out by Gilbert Arenas over his comments on Bronny James
Prior to the NBA 2K25 ratings being revealed, Gilbert Arenas had once called out Jaylen Brown for one of his past comments.
The Boston Celtic said Los Angeles Laker Bronny James should first spend time playing in the G League but probably won’t because of his father LeBron. In response to the comment, the former Washington Wizard reminded Brown about his own performance in the Summer League.
“Do you know what they said about him [Brown] in Summer League? He was the third pick in the [2016] NBA Draft … The first three games, just like Bronny, Bronny was 6-for-26? Jaylen Brown was 5-for-26 from the field in his first three games in Summer League,” Arenas said. “No one bashed him—and he was the third pick in the NBA draft!”
Brown and the Celtics are gunning for a second-straight championship, while Bronny is looking forward to starting his rookie season with his father and the Lakers.
