In a battle between two legitimate NBA title contenders, it was the Oklahoma City Thunder that came out on top after beating the Boston Celtics Wednesday night in Beantown.
The Thunder’s 118-112 win at TD Garden in Boston had Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s fingerprints all over it. The Most Valuable Player contender dropped a game-high 34 points.
He shot 11-for-20 from the field and went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line. Additionally, the former Kentucky Wildcats star dished out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds in an all-around effort that even Celtics forward Jaylen Brown had nothing but praise for.
“That boy good. You know what I mean?” Brown said in the postgame press conference (h/t Celtics on CLNS). “That boy is good. Big fan of his game… Definitely a guy that you watch and you study to be better if we end up playing them down the line. He’s a tough cover, he’s been playing some good basketball and you’ve gotta tip your cap,” the 2024 NBA Finals MVP added.
Brown didn’t do very well in the Thunder game, as he needed 15 field goal attempts to finish with only 10 points. Nevertheless, Brown is a vital cog in the Celtics machine that is looking to successfully defend the NBA crown they won in 2024.

Will there be a Boston Celtics vs. Oklahoma City Thunder 2025 NBA Finals series?

Although it was the final meeting in the regular season between the Celtics and the Thunder, there’s a fair chance that the two teams will cross paths again before the end of this campaign. And if that’s to happen, it will be in the 2025 NBA Finals.
The Thunder have already clinched a ticket to the playoffs and are comfortably atop the Western Conference standings with a 54-12 record, while the Celtics are virtually assured of a spot in the postseason, thanks to their 47-19 record to date.
