Many Boston Celtics fans continue to be frustrated with head coach Steve Kerr, as the Team USA coach gave their star, Jayson Tatum, another DNP in their narrow victory against Serbia in the Olympic semifinals.
Jayson Tatum may not publicly admit it, but having an inconsistent role must have taken a toll on him to some degree. However, according to two-time NBA champion guard Quinn Cook, the Boston Celtics star should use this as motivation in the 2024-25 season.
“Jayson Tatum will win MVP this season! Three straight All-NBA first teams, winning a gold medal in 2021 while being the 2nd leading scorer on the team and just won his first NBA championship to not playing a minute for team USA 🤔🤔 all the motivation he needs. Look out NBA,” Cook posted on his X (formerly known as Twitter).
Tatum has only played three games in the Paris Olympics, averaging 6.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and two assists in roughly 19 minutes per contest. The Boston Celtics star hasn’t played for Team USA since their final group-stage match against Brazil.
Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics are eyeing for a repeat in 2024-25
Jayson Tatum was a huge reason why the Boston Celtics won their 18th championship in franchise history last season. Through 74 regular season games, he averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.
After averaging 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in the postseason, the Boston Celtics rewarded Tatum with the largest extension in NBA history worth $315 million for five years.
If Team USA beats France this weekend, Tatum and his Boston Celtics teammates Derrick White and Jrue Holiday will be among the few to have won an NBA title and Olympic gold medal in the same year.
