The reigning NBA champions Boston Celtics are playing like, well, the defending champs of late.
Boston extended its win streak to eight games following a 121-111 takedown of the San Antonio Spurs on the road Saturday night. Jayson Tatum was instrumental in that win by the Celtics, as he made a successful return to action after missing a game due to an ankle injury that left Boston fans concerned.
It can be recalled that Tatum exited last week’s game against the Sacramento Kings on the road after landing on big man Domantas Sabonis’ foot while taking a 3-point shot.

The former Duke Blue Devils star would then miss the next Celtics game versus the Phoenix Suns but looked fine in his return to action.
Jayson Tatum said his ankle “felt fine for the most part” tonight. He said he realized pretty quickly that he avoided a significant injury but that it was painful at first.

Against the Spurs, Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 29 points on 10-for-22 shooting from the floor. It was not an entirely smooth performance for Tatum, as he shot just 2-for-9 from behind the arc, but overall, Boston must have been left satisfied with his showing.
Tatum also had 10 rebounds and eight assists plus a block in 36 minutes. Meanwhile, Jrue Holiday scored 21 points and Luke Kornet came off the bench and produced 15 points with 16 rebounds.
