Most Boston Celtics supporters are angry with Team USA head coach Steve Kerr for continuously benching Jayson Tatum in the Paris Olympics. However, Jeff Teague says this might benefit the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Like Quinn Cook’s bold MVP claim about the reigning NBA champion, Teague, who played in Boston for one season, argued that fans should be “thanking” Team USA for doing them a favor.
“If you’re a Boston Celtics fan, you should be thanking USA Basketball,” Teague said on the Club 520 Podcast. “Because now y’all got another championship on the way.”
“(Tatum probably is like) ‘I’m First Team All-NBA, bro, and I’m sitting the bench. I just won a chip, First Team All-NBA, I’m having the best year of my life. Then I go to the Olympics, bro, and y’all telling me I’m the weakest one on the team. He’s gonna be on a mission, bro. Y’all know I got the inside scoop, he gonna be on a mission,” he explained.
Jayson Tatum has only played three games for Team USA in the quadrennial meet, averaging 6.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and two assists in roughly 19 minutes per contest.
Why Jeff Teague made a great point about the Boston Celtics
Jayson Tatum collecting DNPs in the Paris Olympics became a huge talking point this summer because he’s coming off a title-winning year for the Boston Celtics as one of their best players.
Jeff Teague pointed out that with Jayson Tatum not playing much and Jaylen Brown excluded from the national team, they will be well-rested and motivated when the Boston Celtics defend their championship this upcoming season.
