Ring night for the Boston Celtics went smoothly as Jayson Tatum. Jaylen Brown, and head coach Joe Mazzulla delivered a flawless performance against the retooled New York Knicks.
The night was filled with unforgettable scenes – Deuce’s merry moment with his father Tatum, the flexing of championship rings, tying the most made 3-point field goals in a single game. What left fans talking though is Joe Mazzulla and his decision to kiss the praquet floor.
The Celtics head coach is known for his emotionless demeanor and eerie interviews. This is why many can’t help but wonder about his thought process when he decided to kiss the floor during the ring ceremony.
When asked about his action, Mazzula said that it was just his way of showing his passion about the game and their achievements.
“I just thought that was a moment, a way for me to express myself,” Mazzulla told reporters when asked about the incident.
“The parquet, that’s where the blood, sweat and tears of the greats (have been). So I don’t get to go out there and dive on the floor for loose balls or like I’d love to or do any of that. So that was a way to express the passion and the gratitude that I have for our team, for the people that have come before and for what it means to be a Celtic. So there’s no place better than the city and the team and just being in the arena with the people. That was important.”
Psycho-Joe strikes again
His explanation about the kiss was found by many touching. That is a stark contrast to what he said yesterday when he explained that there is no pressure for him to win the title again and that losing it to another team would not matter in the grand scheme of things.
Mazzulla would not let the day end though without his on-brand eerie commentaries.
When asked what the floor tasted like, he gave the most unexpected answer.
“Blood,” Mazzulla responded. “I mean, I wish it did.”
