Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla probably can’t wait to get the new season started as the new defending NBA champions, and he delivered yet another psychotic quote to sum up the team’s mindset.
Speaking with John Karalis of Locked On Celtics and Boston Sports Journal, the 36-year-old tactician acknowledged the challenge of being the hunted team and why they’re ready for it.
“I wish we started tomorrow. I hope it’s even 10 times harder than it was last year,” Mazzulla said. “People are going to say the target’s on our back, but I hope it’s right in our forehead, in between our eyes. I hope I can see the red dot.”
Over the past two years, Joe Mazzulla has ingratiated himself with the Boston Celtics fans because of his “sicko” reputation on top of his on-court tactics. In an interview with ESPN’s Zach Lowe earlier this summer, he even had a surprisingly detailed strategy to pull off a successful bank heist.
Boston Celtics are on a “revenge” tour, per Charles Barkley
NBA analyst Charles Barkley is one of the people who thinks that the Boston Celtics are poised to repeat next season.
The 11-time NBA All-Star said that Jayson Tatum’s controversial benching during the Paris Olympics and Jaylen Brown’s omission from Team USA, in particular, should motivate them to prove doubters wrong.
“Only the NBA can do that, let’s piss off 2 of the Top 10 players in the NBA after they’re coming off a championship,” Barkley said on The Bill Simmons Podcast. “I can’t think of any other scenario where the NBA pissed off 2 players more than they did this summer with Jayson and Jaylen, I really believe that sincerely.”
