Sports fans in New England don’t run out of teams to root for. The Boston Celtics are their current darlings due to recency bias, but they aren’t the only ones worth rooting for in New England.
Tom Brady and the Patriots have long spoiled Boston’s sports fans with two decades of dominance. The Bruins have also brought Stanley Cups to the town, though they haven’t won anything recently. The Boston Red Sox are also a great team to watch, winning a couple of World Series titles as well.
While it may seem like there’s nothing else to look forward to outside of these teams, pro wrestling fans will immediately point to John Cena as a sports personality worth following.
The WWE superstar first broke into fame as a rapping superstar and has established himself as one of the most beloved faces the franchise has ever seen. While he doesn’t talk about his sports fandom as much, a recent interview let fans know where he stands when it comes to his NBA loyalty.
John Cena names the Boston Celtics as his favorite sports team
Cena has been giving interviews as he prepares to step down from the ring before the year ends. In one of these interviews, he talks about what could be his favorite UK football team. For some reason, the C’s were put into the conversation, which the wrestler more than welcomed.
Per M. Ross of Celts Are Here:
“I always say I am looking for a team,” Cena told talkSPORT via Goal.com “Everybody says I’m a Tottenham fan, there has been talks of me being a Chelsea fan. I say I’m looking for a team. I am still trying to figure out the game, the rivalries, so if you have a good pitch I am willing to listen.”
The interviewer made a suggestion for Celtic, which caught Cena’s interest due to his Boston roots. “That’s a decent pitch. I’m from Boston and our basketball team is called the Celtics. So, I’ll put that at the front of the list.”
The Boston Celtics are the overwhelming favorites to win next year’s championship, and they have a balanced roster that can face almost every team in the league. Cena would be right to stick close to his hometown and support the C’s.
