Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday is on top of NBA.com’s official Finals MVP ladder, as he has been one of the most consistent performers in the 2024 NBA Finals.
The one-time NBA champion was the Boston Celtics’ leading scorer in their 105-98 Game 2 victory on Sunday since he recorded 26 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists while shooting 11-of-14 from the field.
Jrue Holiday also became the first guard to produce at least 25 points and 10 rebounds while shooting at least 75 percent from the floor in an NBA Finals game. In the first two games of the Finals, the 33-year-old is averaging 19.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game on 65.2 percent shooting from the field.
But more importantly, Jrue Holiday made the winning plays on both ends of the floor – from being a constant pest on the defensive end to hitting big shots in the paint or from three-point land.
Jrue Holiday, the stabilizer for the Boston Celtics
Jrue Holiday already has several signature moments in this year’s playoffs, including his game-clinching steal on Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard during the Eastern Conference Finals.
“That experience, that just championship DNA, which you hear about all the time,” Derrick White said about Jrue Holiday. “You don’t really know what it takes until you do what it takes. The moment he came to our team in training camp, he kind of had that presence about him. He just knows how to win.”
The move to acquire Jrue Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers last summer was a masterstroke by Brad Stevens since he has been the perfect glue guy for them.
