The Boston Celtics may have swept the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, but that doesn’t necessarily reflect the type of war these two teams just went through in this series.
Save for Boston’s 16-point blowout win in Game 2, the other three games in this series were decided by an average of just 3.0 points, including the Celtics’ 105-102 Game 4 win on Tuesday night.
Ultimately, the Pacers put up a formidable fight but were simply overmatched against a powerhouse Celtics side.
Boston Celtics News: Jaylen Brown Heaps Praise on Indiana Pacers
After Monday’s series-clinching win, newly-crowned East Finals MVP Jaylen Brown had nothing but praise for the Pacers. The Celtics superstar just had to erase the narrative that the Celtics had a walk in the park against Indiana:
“I know people think that Indiana wasn’t a good team or whatever the case may be, but I thought they were as tough as anybody we played all season,” Brown said, via Jay King of The Athletic (h/t Legion Hoops on X, formerly Twitter) “… So shout out to them and respect to them.”
The fact that the Pacers did not have star point guard Tyrese Haliburton in Games 3 and 4 obviously played a key role in the outcome of the series, but in the end, even Haliburton’s presence may have not been enough to salvage this series for Indiana.
Brown and the Celtics have now booked their place in the NBA Finals. They will likely face the Dallas Mavericks, who are currently up 3-0 against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.
