Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is brimming with confidence. I mean, you would be too if you’re coming off your first career championship, right?
This is exactly why the five-star All-Star recently had an audacious claim about being able to beat an NBA legend in a game of 1-on-1.
Boston Celtics News: Jayson Tatum Has Himself Over Carmelo Anthony
Tatum was recently interviewed by high school basketball prospect Kiyan Anthony, who happens to be the son of retired 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony. The 17-year-old asked the Celtics superstar if he believed he could take on Melo during his prime. After giving it some thought, Tatum responded affirmatively:
“Me coming off the year we just won a championship? 11-8. Me,” Tatum said confidently.
Kiyan: "If you play my pops [Carmelo Anthony] 1 on 1 in his prime till 11, what [do] you think the score would be?"
Jayson Tatum: "Me coming off the year we just won a championship? 11-8. Me."
Do you agree? 🤔

Melo is without a doubt one of the greatest to ever do it. During his prime, the former No. 3 overall pick thrived in isolation basketball, so you just know that he would have been a menace in any 1-on-1 game.
Tatum is no scrub, though, and while more than a few fans out there will be quick to call out his bold claim over Anthony, there is enough reason to believe that the Celtics talisman could actually back up his hypothetical declaration.
Melo is now 40 and he likely won’t be able to keep up with Tatum today. However, it would have been a much different story if Anthony was in his prime.
