Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is not a free agent. However, he was entering the final guaranteed season of his current deal due to the fact that he had a player option on his contract for the 2025-26 season.
The Celtics had no intention of letting Tatum go, and they’ve now ensured that he will be in Boston for the foreseeable future.
Boston Celtics News: Jayson Tatum Agrees to Record-Breaking Deal
$315 million. That’s the amount of money Tatum will pocket with his new deal. That also happens to be the largest contract in the history of the NBA.
NBA insider Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report broke the news on Monday evening after Tatum agreed to a five-year extension with the Celtics:
“BREAKING: Boston Celtics and star Jayson Tatum have reached an agreement on a five-year, $315M supermax extension with a player option that is the largest contract in NBA history, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport,” Haynes reported on X, formerly twitter.
If there’s anyone who deserves to get this record-breaking deal, it has to be Tatum. After all, he just led the Celtics to a championship behind a tremendous 2024-25 campaign.
Boston will be out to defend their title this coming season, and they will obviously want to compete for a championship every single year moving forward. By signing Tatum to an extension, they’ve guaranteed that it will be the five-time All-Star who will be leading the way for them for the years to come.
