Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum has been vocal about his admiration for the late, great Kobe Bryant. This is exactly why the newly-crowned NBA champ jumped on the opportunity to honor the fallen Los Angeles Lakers icon yet again by donning Kobe’s No. 10 jersey number for Team USA.
On Monday, Tatum expressed how much it means to him to carry the torch.
Boston Celtics News: Jayson Tatum Honors Kobe Bryant
According to Tatum, it’s a great privilege for him to put on the No. 10 shirt for Team USA — one that he takes very seriously:
“Nothing short of an honor to be able to represent the uniform and wear No. 10,” Tatum said. “Anybody (who) remotely knows me knows how much influence that he had on me as a kid aspiring to reach my goals. It’s definitely something I don’t take for granted or take lightly.”

Tatum will want to take it a step further later this month when the Americans head to Paris for the Olympic Games. The Celtics forward will aim to replicate a feat achieved by Bryant twice in his illustrious career when the four-time NBA champ brought home an Olympic gold medal.
Tatum was part of the Team USA squad that bagged the title in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and he will now be looking to make it back-to-back gold medals.
