The Boston Celtics rocked the basketball world when they signed Jayson Tatum to a record-breaking $313 million max extension. Shortly after winning their first championship in almost two decades, the Celtics rewarded their cornerstone superstar with the largest contract in NBA history.
Unsurprisingly, Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla had the funniest reaction to Tatum’s earth-shattering new deal.

To say that Mazzulla was excited about this massive development would be an understatement. So much so, that the newly-crowned NBA champion coach busted out his whiteboard to start drawing up plays for the upcoming season.
According to Tatum, he just had to give his coach a chill pill:
“Joe was already trying to draw up s**t for next season,” Tatum said (h/t NBA on ESPN on X, formerly Twitter). “I was like, ‘Joe, f**k that. We just won the championship, like, enjoy it and relax.”
This is very much on-brand for Coach Joe.
This is what makes Mazzulla a master tactician, though. His mind does not take any days off, and he’s clearly already locked in on defending their crown just weeks after leading the Celtics to their 18th franchise title.
For his part, Tatum is happy to enjoy the fruits of his labor, but you can also be sure that this man won’t be resting on his laurels.
