Boston Celtics fans are holding their collective breath on the health of star big man Kristaps Porzingis ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night. The former All-Star has been out of action due to a calf strain and while there was some hope he was going to be able to return for Boston’s Eastern Conference Finals showdown against the Indiana Pacers, Porzingis was left on the outside looking in throughout the series.

With Game 1 of the Finals just a few days away, however, it appears that there’s a significant chance that the 7-foot-2 big man will be ready to face his former team in the series opener.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla revealed to reporters that Porzingis “did everything the team did” during practice:

While the Celtics shot-caller refused to provide a timetable on Porzingis’ return, it is clear that he is making significant progress ahead of the NBA Finals.

For what it’s worth, the Mavs traded Porzingis to the Washington Wizards a couple of years ago in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans. There’s going to be a bit of a revenge narrative going on here, which is why you can be sure that the Latvian is doing everything he can to get ready for the Mavs series.
