With Noah Lyles breaking an Olympic record, his statements on labeling the Boston Celtics ‘world champions’ after winning the 2024 NBA Finals have been recalled. This was chimed in by NBA insider and ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst on NBA Today and he also gave a hot take.
According to Windhorst, he doesn’t disagree with Lyles statements, self-labeling him as a ‘world champion’ but also expressed that he should also consider Team USA the title since the Americans have won the last four Olympic tournaments.
“Today is not the day to disagree with Noah Lyles,” said Windhorst. “Does Noah Lyles regard himself as world champion because he won the Olympics? If he does, then the US is the world champion because they won the last four Olympics.”
However, Windhorst doubled down, as he firmly believed that the Boston Celtics could actually win the Olympic gold medal if they competed in the games.
“If the Boston Celtics were in this [Olympic] tournament, I think they’d have a very good chance to win it,” Windhorst said.

The veteran journalist also agrees that there will be issues on nationality if the hypothetical scenario happens, especially since the Celtics employ international players like center Kristaps Porzingis.
Jayson Tatum shares feelings on Boston Celtics 2024 NBA championship
After all the scrutiny in his NBA career, Jayson Tatum is now on top of the mountain, helping lead the Boston Celtics to their first championship since 2008. Getting that monkey off his back gives the five-time NBA All-Star a breath of fresh air and is still euphoric from the whole experience.
“Nah, it’s still like unreal. It’s like, just seeing pictures and videos of that moment. You know, people come up and say congrats all the time. It’s like, man, we really did it,” said Tatum. “You know, that was the thing that people held over my head, especially in recent years. ‘He’s gotten so close, but can he do it?’ All the times that you have gotten close and failed. And then you finally get over the hump? That feeling is unmatched.”
It has also been an interesting summer for Tatum, as he was named the NBA 2k25 cover athlete while playing for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside his contemporaries LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant.
