Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum recently appeared in an interview with Jimmy Fallon to discuss his crazy summer, which includes winning his first NBA championship and second Olympic gold medal, and his new children’s book, among others.
During the show, Fallon asked the five-time NBA All-Star several basketball questions. Tatum predicted that the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks would meet in a rematch and that he would win his first league MVP.
On ESPN’s NBA Today. Kendrick Perkins reacted to Jayson Tatum’s MVP comments, describing him as “selfish” but in a good way.
“He’s selfish, and it’s a great way of saying it. I’m not being negative right now, but seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others,” Perkins said.
“After we won the championship, KG thought I was playing to try and make the All-Star team, and I was. I did have my own personal agenda. And the Big Fella had to go think about it; he came to me a few days later and said, ‘Perk, I should want you to make the All-Star team, you should want that for yourself.’ So I don’t have a problem with a player being somewhat selfish and wanting to accomplish things on an individual basis,” he further explained.
Is Jayson Tatum capable of winning MVP with the Boston Celtics?
Jayson Tatum is one of the best players on the planet right now. However, the Boston Celtics don’t need him to carry the squad because they are stacked with talent.
Jaylen Brown is the reigning Finals MVP and has been a perfect co-star for Tatum. Also, the team has the likes of Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Kristaps Porzingis, all of whom could go off on any night.
Tatum can win his first MVP if the Boston Celtics continue to win games while outproducing Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, among others.
