As the 2024 NBA playoffs approach its late stages, there’s no question that the Boston Celtics are the big favorites to make the NBA Finals from the East. They have one of the stronger rosters in the entire league when it comes to star power and the overall effectiveness of their rosters.

The fact that they took down the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games is a testament to the quality of players they have on their roster. The fact that they managed to win despite not having Kristaps Porzingis on the roster makes it all the more impressive.

While Porzingis is making a speedy recovery to be back in time, every extra day of rest he could get will allow him to be in better shape when the Celtics take on whichever team emerges victorious between the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers.

Boston Celtics’ quick win over Cleveland should help with Kristaps Porzingis’ recovery

Porzingis didn’t play a single minute of basketball during the Cavaliers series due to his calf issues. While the team didn’t need him that much throughout the postseason, his absence only made fans realize how important KP is to their championship aspirations.

    Per Mass Live’s Brian Robb:

Over the past six games, Porzingis’ absence has place increased pressure on Al Horford from a minutes and usage standpoint over the past week. The team has kept Horford’s minutes under control well all season long (season average) but the teams has taken the reins off Horford this series.

Horford has been perfoming well despite his advanced age. The 37-year-old big man has been averaging 8.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists a game this postseason. Meanwhile, Porzingis averaged 12.3 points, 5.0 boards, and 1.8 assists a game.

While Robb argued that Porzingis won’t probably be needed against the Knicks if they win their series, it’s still a great thing for them to have Porzingis as a bit of an insurance policy to help Horford manage his body better.
