Boston Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum was DNP once more in Team USA’s semifinal match against Serbia at the Paris Olympics. Many were surprised, as head coach Kerr once repeated the same thing back at the USA’s first match against the Europeans in the group stage.
Wyc Grousbeck, owner of the Celtics, saw his’ player’s DNP as frustrating. In The Greg Hill Show, Grousbeck expressed his disappointment with Kerr for not deploying Tatum to the frontlines again.
“I mean, I wouldn’t play Steve Kerr, let me put it that way. What’s going on? It’s a mystery. It’s a complete mystery. I think Jayson [Tatum] doesn’t deserve anything but praise, kudos and playing time.”
Grousbeck also said that the Boston Celtics won another championship thanks to Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s contributions.
For the entrepreneur, the coaching staff of Team USA doesn’t allow the former to assist in the roster, preferring just to let them play without enhancing them.
“I think he and Jaylen [Brown] led us to this unbelievable championship and they’re not apparently helping the Olympic team. They’re not able to be helpful in the Olympic team and just leave it at that. It’s mystifying.”
Team USA almost lost against the Serbians in their semifinal match. Thanks to the impressive comebacks of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid, they took a four-point lead at the end of the match. The others had lower stats.
Tatum has been inconsistent in playing ball recently. Steve Kerr often puts him on the defensive line. Despite this, he still double-doubled in the match against Puerto Rico, scoring ten points and ten rebounds.
There’s a good chance that the five-time NBA All-Star will play in Sunday’s gold medal game against France.
Post-match, Kerr explained why he never deployed Jayson Tatum in the recent match. The head coach said he saw better dynamics that night. However, he clarified that Tatum’s skills are to be noticed. It’s just that he needs to adapt to the situation at that time.
Boston Celtics’ players are performing well for Team USA.
Other than Tatum, two more Celtics players are playing for the American powerhouse. Jrue Holiday and Derrick White also contributed significantly to Team USA’s victories.
They also had a stormy night against Serbia. Holiday only scored three points, two assists, and seven rebounds in 20 minutes. White only played for six minutes, getting a steal.
