The 2024 edition of the NBA Finals promises to be exciting as the Boston Celtics prepare to square off against the Dallas Mavericks. The series has the potential to become a classic due to the level of talent on both sides and the narratives surrounding it.
The Celtics are coming into this year’s Finals as the favorites for the first time in a while, but they should know better than to dismiss a squad with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving playing their best basketball.
While it’s hard to make a proper call on how the series would pan out, people are not afraid to make bold predicctions on how the first duel of the series would pan out.
One popular sports publication took a fun spin on predicting which team would take first blood in the series, using technology to make the decision for them.
ESPN’s computer predicts the Boston Celtics to win Game 1 vs the Dallas Mavericks
ESPN Analytics is a trusted name for dissecting the NBA, its games, and the players that make unforgettable basketball moments possible.
The computer predicted that the Celtics would win the first round of their seven-game series. The Spun’s Daniel Bates wrote more about the prediction:
With tip-off just four days away, ESPN’s Basketball Power Index is giving the C’s a 65.7% chance of taking a 1-0 series lead at home over the Dallas Mavericks.
While Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and Co. are believed to have just a 34.3% chance of stealing a W on the road.
The outstanding roster the Celtics have built this season makes the choice easy for the AI. Derrick White and Jrue Holiday are indispensable and can cause problems for the Mavs’ backcourt. Meanwhile, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford are tough assignments in the frontcourt.
While the Dallas Mavericks have a good enough squad to reach the Finals, they don’t have a good enough roster to compete with the Celtics on paper. However, it’s hard to discount Luka and Kyrie putting up major numbers to upset the C’s.
While AI predicts the Celtics to draw first blood, fans should stay glued in and watch the action unfold in front of their eyes.
