Atlanta Dream’s new star Brittney Griner flexed her new hairstyle, as she apparently already found a stylist that she called for on social media weeks ago.
In a new story on Instagram, Brittany Griner showed off her new braids to mark a new chapter of her career with her new team.
“Welcome to ATL,” Griner captioned her story, showing of her hair from the top view.
She also showed off her new style in action during practice.
“Great first day!” she captioned it.
Brittney Griner has sported a variety of hairstyles throughout her career, but she is most recognized for her long dreadlocks that became a signature look for her over the years. Her dreadlocks were a defining part of her style until she had to cut them off during her time in a Russian penal colony due to the harsh cold conditions.
After spending 11 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, Brittney Griner made a significant move to the Atlanta Dream in free agency, marking a new chapter in her storied WNBA career. Griner, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and one of the league’s most dominant centers, cited the team’s culture, individual players, and her family as key factors in her decision.

In a press interview, Brittney Griner talked about the main thing that pulled her to the Atlanta Dream. As it turned out, the Dream roster was a huge factor in helping her decide on her new home.
“You know, every single girl on that team, they’re amazing people,” Griner said. “And you know, that’s one of the things that led me to the Atlanta Dream. Just how each and every player is, you know, over the years.”
“I’ve gotten to know a few of them really well. And it’s always been genuine. It’s always been good. That was a big selling point after talking to coach [Karl Smesko] as well, you know, everything that we talked about.”

During the 2024 WNBA season, Griner showcased her impressive skills, averaging 17.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. She maintained a strong presence on defense with 1.5 blocks and 0.5 steals per game, while shooting efficiently at 57.9% from the field, 50.0% from three-point range, and 77.7% from the free-throw line.
Across 30 games, Brittney Griner accumulated 534 points, 197 rebounds, 69 assists, 46 blocks, and 16 steals, demonstrating her well-rounded contribution to the Phoenix Mercury. Her advanced metrics further highlight her impact, with a usage rate of 25.7% and an effective field goal percentage of 59.1%.
